Curtis's Charm

Eastside Films, 1995
An Alliance International Video Release
Presented by Atom Egoyan and Patricia Rozema
Based on the short story by Jim Carroll, Curtis's
Charm is a smart, laugh-out-loud comedy that percolates with
wit and energy.
A chance reunion of two buddies, Jim (Callum Keith
Rennie) and Curtis (Maurice Dean Wint), a few years after their
stint in rehab, sets the stage for a hilarious and spirited look
at life on the street. The two outlaws band together in order to
save the delusional Curtis from his evil mother-in-law and the "voodoo
juju" curse she has placed him under. Jim concocts a good luck
"charm" and persuades Curtis that it will protect him
from evil. The placebo works all too well and the result is startling,
not only for Curtis but for all those around him.
