River Jordan
by Jim Carroll
Exclusive to CatholicBoy.com, 2001
In 2001, CatholicBoy.com was honored to offer “River Jordan” as an exclusive, limited edition broadside (poster).
The broadside, measuring approximately 8.5″x15″, was designed and produced by Laura Mendoza (to whom Void of Course is dedicated). Mendoza hand-set the text of the poem using a manual printing press and brown ink on fine sepia-colored paper, illustrating it with a hand-set linoleum cut drawing in blue ink.
This broadside comes straight from Jim Carroll himself (rather than through a publisher), and it is limited to 151 copies total. Of these:
- 75 are numbered and signed by Jim Carroll in brown ink
- One is handwritten in brown ink, dedicated to “J. Matthew Martin – ESQ,” and signed/dated by Jim Carroll in brown ink
- 35 unnumbered copies are signed in brown ink
The remaining 40 unsigned copies were made available with the 2001 release and people bought them. Please contact me if you have evidence that Jim Carroll signed copies of these 2001-2009.
In 2017 CatholicBoy.com released the remainder of the unsigned copies; all were sold. Obviously, none of these are autographed.
Check out the gallery below to see examples of the various editions.
CatholicBoy.com provided certificates of authenticity with each broadside sold and can authenticate any copy of this broadside.
Examples are included in the gallery below.
