Hearts and sinew

In 2002 I connected Jim Carroll with the visionary and ambitious Gary Rinkerman, who was making his dreams reality by commissioning work by his favorite performers and artists, starting with Carroll doing a spoken-word recording of William Blake’s The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. Carroll and Rinkerman quickly became friends and the collaboration continued with spoken-word recordings of two Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and then extended into a writing project. Carroll produced two new poems inspired by the Sherlock Holmes stories, and he and Rinkerman had planned for these two pieces to form the cornerstone of a larger collaboration. Sadly, Carroll passed away before the larger vision could be completed.
